Write Down Your Dreams throgh Goal Setting
Before establishing any business model or engaging in any business associated discipline you will need to actually give some consideration as to your objectives and goals.
What exactly do you wish to achieve, and in what time frame?
This should relate to not only to your business model, but the profit margin you want to achieve, and the general direction of your business. Having a clear sense of direction and purpose will allow you to more readily determine the best and most productive strategies for your business be it in terms of suppliers, the customers you target, or the marketing campaigns you may rely on.
Make sure that the goals you write are SMART. More than just a catchy word in capital letters, SMART is an acronym for:
• Specific
• Measurable
• Attainable
• Relevant
• Timed
Regardless of how big or small a business decision is, make sure you apply these five principles to it, in order to reach the best course of action. Give some thought to each of the goals you wish to achieve, clearly identify everything you need to achieve that goal, be it money, business contacts, skills etc.
o When you have identified all of these necessary components, you will be able to more readily achieve them, as you now have a point of reference to rely upon and repeat this process for every goal you have identified.
Once you have clearly identified all of your desired goals and the resources required to achieve them, the next important step is to sort and rank them according to the respective level of priority they have to you. This is a very important step because it will allow you to dedicate the most time to the most important goals, and sparing you from becoming too bogged down by more trivial details.
With all of your goals now effectively sorted, you should then give a timescale for each one of them, clearly identifying the amount of time you wish to achieve each goal within. Don’t be too ambitious with this, circumstances can and will change, so beware of setting the bar too high, so break down goals into each individual component and process that has to be fulfilled, so that these can form part of your daily routine. That way you can more effectively chart your progress.
Time is a valuable resource, and so you may want to audit your time, carefully identify and note the areas which occupy your time the most. Be it work, recreational time, socialising with friends and family or whatever, make sure you write it all down, along with the approximate proportion of your time that is spent on it. This will give you a better appreciation of the various commitments and drains on your time, and thus balance them all accordingly.
Don’t get too bogged down trying to get the amounts exactly right, rough estimates will more than suffice, the idea is simply to give you a rough idea.
